Our New Vertical Garden
Our new vertical succulent garden is the belle of the ball. I love watching people get excited about it. They are bringing their friends in to see it, taking pictures of it, coming in just to visit it. The notion of vertical gardens has really captured people’s imaginations. I think this one looks like an aerial photograph.
This garden was installed by my own Kevin Smith just before Thanksgiving. Kevin likes building these gardens with a frame, rather than as a “living wall.” Framing the plants and hanging them on the wall allow you to look at them differently. Needless to say, people are inspired by this piece and Kevin is installing several more in the coming weeks around the Bay Area.
Caitlin Atkinson took these pictures, and I helped.

I absolutely love the wall of framed succulents. I am trying to figure out how to construct a small one for our yard of drought tolerant plantings! Any advice?

I love you guys. How do you water this? Is water poured in somewhere? What material is used to support the plants? Give us some details on how you came up with such a beautiful arrangement!!

I found you through d*s. Just wanna let you know, your work is inspiring! Thank you so much!
I love your vertical walls!! It reminds me a bit of the roof planting I’ve photographed weeks ago. I should finally try to plant succulents, cause I love them.

Hi!
I leave in Brazil and I’ve never seen anything like this here before! I would love to know how you do this to make one in my garden. Can you help me with that?
Thanks!

This is an incredible living painting for a garden wall. I am moving to Laguna Niguel tomorrow (Sunset zone 22) and wondered if this succulent vertical could thrive in my climate? If so, what would be the care and can I order one (I see others have asked how to build-and I would consider that too)? Julie

Your ability to create amazing art with plants and minimalist structure surrounding them, in and out of the gardens is extraordinary. I’m so curious as to what will inspire you next? Keep it coming!
