Small Garden Inspiration: Narrow Borders and Beds
Urban gardening often involves working with narrow, confined spaces and odd-shaped borders. Here’s a bit of small garden inspiration for you as you look to plan garden beds in challenging tight-squeeze spots.
Large specimen low-water plants like agaves are great for tight spaces, as they make a dramatic impact but don’t need tons of room to grow.
Narrow trough-shaped planters are perfect for planting against a wall or on a tight balcony or deck. Succulents make great choices for these planters, as long as they are fitted with adequate drainage holes and watered sparingly.
Large leafy plants like Strelitzia nicolai (Giant Bird of Paradise) can be planted close together to create a sense of privacy and lushness. A single statement piece of furniture, like the Fermob Sixties Chair, paired with a cute little accent pot, really rounds out the space.
