Hello Friends –
Funny weather, huh? There are hours when we feel that winter has arrived, and then minutes later we are tearing off our sweaters. When the weather stays gentle into the evening, the balmy air reminds us of islands we've visited and we get inspired to imbue our gardens with that tropical feeling.
How about adding a tall palm tree to rustle in the wind, cast dappled shade, and add that crucial vertical dimension to your garden? Or some bold tropical foliage to contrast with grasses or fine-textured plants? Come into the store and grab some deals!
Tropical Inspiration Sale!
Friday, September 28 – Sunday, September 30
30% off all palms
30% off some of our favorite tropical plants
Inspiration from Don Worth and Saxon Holt
 |
|
The Worth garden started as a thicket of weed trees in the 1970s, but under the hand of late photographer and horticulturist Don Worth it became a perfectly composed island of exoticism in Mill Valley. Landscape photographer (and our friend) Saxon Holt recently spent time in the garden. Inspired? See more.
We'll have dry-loving Guadalupe palms (Brahea edulis) and graceful pygmy date palms (Phoenix roebelenii), pictured here at left, on sale!

Inspiration from Tom Henthorne's California-Tropical Garden
 |
|
Tom Henthorne's influences come from his travels around the globe, particularly to Bali and West Africa. And while his Marin garden feels distinctly Californian, the essence of the tropics permeates the space, inspiring our own tropical reverie.
For that California-tropical look, borrow Tom's alluring gambit of layering under native oaks an array of vivid bromeliads, luxuriant perennials, bold succulents, arching palms, and filagree ferns. See more of his work. Carry that inspiration to our store and pick out sale plants to add a tropical moment to your garden!
