Hello Friends –
It is harvest time, and in our Mediterranean climate, it is also planting time, when autumn rains enable plants to get their roots established for luscious growth next year. With this rain falling — the season has really begun.

Feed Folks From Your Garden
Sunday, October 18, 2009, 10:30am
Everywhere we look, we are delighted to see people planting edible plants in their gardens. If you are planting your first edible garden, or want to share your experience growing your own food, please come to our next 3rd Sundays workshop with Clarke de Mornay.

At age nine, Clarke planted his first half-acre of vegetables and opened a farm stand with the harvest. You will recognize Clarke because, well, he is tall, smart and handsome, and he is possibly the friendliest of our very friendly staff. He's also the buyer of our edible offerings, including veggies, fruit trees, and herbs. Besides being a child farmer, he gardened for sixteen years just a few blocks from the Pacific Ocean in San Francisco, where he pulled off feats of edible gardening that could win awards at a county fair — like ripening pomegranates and tomatoes!
Fall is a great time to plant salad greens and veggies like favas, broccoli, and artichokes, as well as deciduous fruit trees and herbs. As always, we will offer a coupon good for a discount that day on the topic du jour — edibles.
Our farms
Did you know we have our own growing grounds? Flora’s business partner, Saul Nadler, is responsible for the 40 acres in the avocado district of northern San Diego County where we grow palms and many of the succulents and trees you see around the nursery. Most of these plants are for the wholesale trade, with the cream of the crop ending up here at the store.
The plants look so pretty, all lined up in rows and surrounded by this beautiful landscape.
While Flora spends her time filling the store with everything your garden needs, her partner Saul keeps everything running smoothly on the business end of our business.

Flora and her business Saul Nadler.
Please come and see us soon.
