Hello Friends –

Autumn in the Bay Area is such a special time. The perfectly warm and beautiful days followed by rejuvenating rains bring the parched landscape back to life. The leaves are beginning to turn and the hillsides are turning green. I love it here.

We have a lot going on here at the store! Three great events you won’t want to miss.

Thanksgiving Open House

Now that our Thanksgiving Open House has become a tradition, it’s our favorite event of the year. Lots of our favorite customers come and bring their families, fans of the store in town for their annual fix.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend we will be celebrating, serving pie and drinks from noon to 4. Please join us!

Introducing… The Cutting Garden

You asked for it! For years we’ve been getting requests for fresh flowers, so at long last we are thrilled to introduce The Cutting Garden at Flora Grubb Gardens, our very own floral design shop. Our gorgeous flower arrangements are the work of Susie Nadler, who is married to Flora’s business partner, Saul. Susie and Flora have been plotting forever to create custom arrangements from materials snipped from our own farms and other local California growers. We’re so pleased to be launching it now, just in time to offer fresh flowers for holiday decorating.

Help us get our flower studio off to a great start. Order flowers for your Thanksgiving table. Order now for delivery Nov. 25th.

Share Winter Beauty From Your Garden
Sunday, November 15, 2009, 10:30am

Autumn and winter are a beautiful phase of quiet renewal in our Mediterranean climate. Celebrate the season by decorating your home with flowers, branches, and foliage from your own garden. Join Flora Grubb, Jim Kumeiga, and flower arranger extraordinaire Susie Nadler to learn about growing your own cutting garden and sharing its beauty indoors at the holidays.

Gathering stems from the garden and assembling them in a vase is a deeply satisfying way to interact with nature in the city. And so with the exciting launch of our floral design shop, our hope is not just to tempt you to treat yourself and your loved ones to fresh flowers, but also to inspire you to grow your own sustainable cutting garden.

Our buddy John Greenlee calls the traditional lawn “a time-consuming, chemical-sucking mistake”. In The American Meadow Garden, John creates a new model for homeowners and gardeners – the meadow.

For John, a meadow isn’t a random assortment of anonymous grasses. Rather, it is a mini-ecosystem in which grasses combine with colorful perennials to form a rich tapestry that is friendly to all life—with minimal input of water, time, and other scarce resources. Join us to learn about rare and useful grasses grown in John’s Bay Area nursery and offered for sale here at Flora Grubb Gardens.

Join us to hear John incite "the meadow revolution", to get practical information on creating your own meadow, and to be inspired by the gorgeous photos of Saxon Holt.

Don't you just love it here?
