Many palms thrive here, but our cool weather has the affect of slowing the growth of many palms. This is both a blessing and a curse. If you are waiting for the little tree you planted to look stately, you may be waiting a long time, but if you have a small garden, as so many of us San Franciscans do, you need not be frightened by threats that a palm "may reach 80 feet." Many palms listed here will reach only half of their potential height in our foggy gardens.
