The Joy of Raising Baby Houseplants

Want to brighten and energize your home for the new year? Think about adding some sweet little baby houseplants to your collection. Watching plants grow as you tend them over the years is a deeply pleasurable part of indoor gardening.

Set up your babies for success by reading our new comprehensive Guide to Houseplant Care, with detailed instructions about how to understand the light, water, and soil needs of your particular plant selection.

Mini Monstera 'Ginny' (Rhapidophora tetrasperma) is a rare beauty, native to Thailand and Malaysia, that grows happily indoors with lots of nice bright indirect light and attentive watering. It's adorable as a baby and grows into an elegant vine!

Phlebodium 'Blue Star' (Blue Bear Paw Fern) is so fun to watch while it grows up! Mature fronds develop a kind of paw-like shape, hence the name. The silvery blue-green hue of the leaves complements so many different interior colors.

The Areca palm (Dypsis lutescens) has a lovely tropical look and will tolerate direct sun in a bright window. Check out some more choices for bright direct indoor sun in this post.

Sweet little mini ferns (above) and peace lilies (below) look straight out of a fairy glade. We often have several different varieties of these cuties in stock. Tend them carefully and watch them grow!

If your room's on the darker side, the ZZ plant (above) and Sansevieria laurentii (snake plant, below) are both excellent choices for lower light conditions (as are the other flat-leafed sansevierias). Read more about plants that will tolerate lower light over here.

We grow these sansevierias ourselves, and we love their versatility. Super friendly for novice growers! Read all about them here.

With the Sun Room up and running, we have so much covered shopping space where you can browse for houseplants safely, rain or shine! Come see us soon and we'll help you choose just the right plants for your indoor garden.
