Trailing Succulents for Hanging Baskets

Down at our farms in the Rainbow Valley, we grow over a dozen varieties of trailing succulents, perfect for hanging baskets, vertical gardens, and container gardens. All of these cuties are in stock now!

Senecio radicans ‘String of Bananas’ (above and below) makes a great houseplant, but it’s equally happy outdoors in mild climates. Fast-growing and easy to care for, this plant needs good drainage and likes to get dry between waterings.

Senecio radicans ‘Fish Hooks’ (above) is similar, producing copious leaves that can trail to several feet long.

Ceropegia woodii 'Variegata,’ the String of Hearts plant, is aptly named for its sweet little heart-shaped leaves, strung together on delicate vines. Shades of mauve, dusty pink, silver, and butter yellow are scattered across the variegated foliage with a soft patina. When it blooms (usually in spring or summer), the flowers will look like tiny magenta trumpets. This rare beauty makes a perfect plant gift.

Senecio peregrinus ‘String of Dolphins’ (above) has adorable little leaves that actually resemble leaping dolphins. Like its cousins, ‘String of Dolphins’ needs well-drained soil, nice bright light (but not too much direct sun) and frost-free weather if grown outdoors.

Sedum morganianum ‘Burrito’ (above) is another adorable choice for hanging baskets, also great trailing over the lip of a pot. Its pale green leaves have an almost silvery look, and they’re easy to grow and propagate.

Come see us to check out all the other hanging succulents we grow, including Portulacaria afra ‘Prostrata’ (above) and Senecio rowleyanus ‘String of Pearls’ (top photo).
